Danang Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center and The High Command of 2nd Regional Coast Guard are holding a midterm review of the maritime search and rescue coordination regulations

On September 15, 2023, in Da Nang City, Danang Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (Danang MRCC) and The High Command of 2nd Regional Coast Guard held a conference to review the coordination regulations for maritime search and rescue activities. The conference was co-chaired by Mr. Bui Tan Nguyen - Director of Danang MRCC, and Colonel Tran Quang Tuan - Commander of The High Command of 2nd Regional Coast Guard, along with the participation of leaders from various departments of both units.

During the conference, participants reported on the outcomes of tasks completed in 2022 and the first eight months of 2023. Both Danang MRCC and The High Command of 2nd Regional Coast Guard have successfully implemented the coordination regulations in recent times. However, they acknowledged ongoing challenges related to external factors such as terrain, weather conditions, equipment capabilities, and the locations of their stations. The report highlighted areas needing improvement, particularly in information sharing and coordination for training and exercises, to further enhance collaboration between the two units in their search and rescue missions.

 Colonel Tran Quang Tuan emphasized that search and rescue missions have always been considered a peacetime combat task by the High Command of Vietnam Coastal Border Guard. He underscored that the Vietnam Coast Guard is committed to improving its capacity and experience in conducting search and rescue operations, particularly in complex scenarios involving adverse weather conditions or when victims are situated far from land or specialized medical support. Colonel Tran Quang Tuan expressed hope that, based on their joint achievements, both units would continue their efforts moving forward. This includes organizing outreach programs for maritime workers, sharing experiences and expertise between their vessels, and researching or developing specialized equipment to assist distressed individuals and vessels while ensuring the safety of personnel on duty at the scene.

Mr. Bui Tan Nguyen, Director of Danang MRCC, affirmed that staff and crew of Danang MRCC consistently strive to coordinate and execute search and rescue operations in collaboration with relevant forces to fulfill every assigned task. They also ensure compliance with international conventions of which Vietnam is a member. Search and rescue activities play a crucial role in protecting national sovereignty and maritime boundaries while showcasing the humanitarian spirit of the Party and Goverment towards individuals working at sea, thereby promoting production and contributing to the nation's wealth. In the near future, both vessels need to actively engage in learning and sharing experiences to further enhance their professional capabilities and their effectiveness in responding to increasingly complex and frequent incidents.

During the occasion, leaders from various departments of The High Command of 2nd Regional Coast Guard visited SAR 412 vessel to conduct surveys and exchange experiences with the crew of Danang MRCC.
