On September 4, 2024, Mr. Bui Van Minh, General Director of Viet Nam MRCC, presided over a meeting to discuss the response to the YAGI Storm. According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, as of 1:00 PM on September 3, 2024, the storm was located at approximately 18.6°N and 119.1°E in the eastern sea area of the North East Sea. It had maximum winds reaching level 9 (75-88 km/h) with gusts up to level 11. The storm was moving west-northwest at 15 km/h and was expected to continue in this direction for 72 hours.
To proactively respond to YAGI Storm, Viet Nam MRCC is prepared to carry out search and rescue missions in any situation and also maintain 24/7 duty for disaster prevention and rescue operations at the Coordination Center in Hanoi and other regional centers. Viet Nam MRCC continuously updates and collects information on the storm's developments from domestic and international sources and statistics, and monitors vessels taking shelter.
All rescue vessels and resources are being prepared to respond promptly before, during, and after the storm.
Viet Nam MRCC regularly receives directives from the Vinamarine, Ministry of Transportation to propose response measures, mobilize vessels in emergencies, and coordinate closely with the Coast Guard, Navy, and Air Force for maritime rescue operations.
In conclusion, General Director Bui Van Minh emphasized that the YAGI Storm could cause significant rainfall and widespread impacts in the northern and central regions. He urged all staff and crew members to remain on standby 24/7, ready to respond to orders and ensure the safety of the fleet while monitoring the storm's progress and logistics readiness. Regional centers must maintain search and rescue forces and resources to respond promptly when needed./.
