Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre No.IV organized a joint maritime search and rescue communication exercise with Japan Coast Guard

On the morning of June 27, 2023, at the Rescue Coordination Department of Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Co-ordination Centre No.IV (Nhatrang MRCC), a joint maritime search and rescue communication exercise (SARCOMEX) with the Japan Coast Guard was conducted, with two supposed rescue scenarios:

Scenario 1: A cargo ship under the Vietnamese flag was in distress while navigating in the search and rescue region of Japan. The captain requested urgent assistance from the Kobe Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre.

Scenario 2: A cargo ship under the Japanese flag was in distress while navigating in the search and rescue region of Vietnam. The captain requested urgent assistance from Nhatrang MRCC.

The SARCOMEX was successfully conducted; the two sides were well coordinated in information exchange, the rescue plan was timely and sensible in accordance with the actual capabilities of each side.

The SARCOMEX contributed to improving the ability to coordinate and handle in English with countries in the region when incidents occur in the search and rescue region, simultaneously, evaluate and learn from it in order to make plans for training duty officers to meet the requirements of the task./
