On July 11, 2023, Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre No.IV (Nhatrang MRCC) was honored to welcome and organize an expert exchange program on maritime search and rescue with the United States Coast Guard (USCG).

The welcoming and working session was honored to have the attendance of Ms. Tran Thi Tuyet Mai Anh, Head of IMO- International Cooperation Department, Vietnam Maritime Administration (VINAMARINE); Ms. Do Ngoc Lan, Head of Organization - Administration Department, Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC) and Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh, Director of Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre No.IV (Nhatrang MRCC).

At the working session, Nhatrang MRCC briefly introduced the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Force; reviewed typical maritime incidents that have been conducted in the recent times. In addition, Nhatrang MRCC pointed out difficulties and limitations, proposed solutions for SAR vessels and equipment as well as expressed their desire to continue to coordinate and cooperate in training to exchange knowledge and improve professional expertise in the field of Search and Rescue.

Within the framework of the program, the representative of the USCG, Mr. Doug Samp, Manager of the Pacific Search and Rescue Program, introduced the Alameda Search and Rescue Unit, shared his experiences of the particular nature of distress in search and rescue region. Moreover, the two sides exchanged practical experiences in maritime search and rescue and expressed their desire to have chance to continue exchange, cooperate and learn from each other in the coming times.

Previously, on the afternoon of July 10, Mr. Tetsuro Kato, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, also visited and worked at Nhatrang MRCC. In the friendly atmosphere, Mr Tetsuro Kato congratulated the achievements of Nhatrang MRCC in promptly responding to maritime incidents which contributed to ensuring Vietnam’s maritime safety and sustainable development. Mr Nguyen Xuan Binh, Director of Nhatrang MRCC thanked the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam for their attention to Nhatrang MRCC over the past years, especially the SAR Communication Exercise with the Japan Coast Guard; affirming that Nhatrang MRCC kept striving to fulfill the tasks assigned by the Party and State of Vietnam, at the same time well cooperated with other parties in distress collecting and monitoring in the search and rescue region.
