Rescuse Operation for Foreign seafarer injured from occupational accident

27/04/2024

At 20:28 P.M on April 17, 2024, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (the Centre) received a distress call from the vessel ASTERIS, flagged under the Marshall Islands, with the MMSI number 538002772. During the journey from Quang Ninh, Vietnam to Indonesia, when the ship arrived at a position about 85 nautical miles north-northeast of Son Tra Peninsula, Da Nang, there was a Filipino crew member who had sustained severe head injuries from occupational accident, rendering them unconscious. The vessel altered its course towards Danang and urgently requested assistance to evacuate the injured crew member for medical treatment.

Upon receiving this information, the Centre immediately coordinated with the Danang Radio to provide medical guidance and initial first aid instructions for the injured crew member. Simultaneously, the vessel was instructed to proceed to Danang at maximum speed to ensure timely medical support.
