SEARCH AND RESCUE MONTHLY REPORT

SEPTEMBER 2023

1. On-duty operation and processing of distress at sea information activities

- The total number of received distress alerts was 31 cases, including:

+ Real distress alert: 28 cases, counting for 90.3%; False distress alert: 03 cases, counting for 9.7%.

+ SAR co-ordination cases without SAR vessel dispatching: 19 cases.

+ SAR co-ordination cases with SAR vessel dispatching: 09 cases.

+ In 28 true incident alerts, there were 04 maritime distress cases relating to cargo vessels, counting for 14%; 22 cases relating to fishing vessels, counting for 79%; and 02 cases relating to other vessels, counting for 7%.

- The total number of supported and rescued: 101 individuals, 03 vessels (97 Vietnamese residents and 04 foreign residents). In particular, Vietnam MRCC co-ordinated with relevant authorities to handle 05 SAR cases, successfully assisting and rescuing 74 individuals (Vietnamese) in the waters of the Paracel Islands and Spratly Islands of Vietnam.

2. Some cases of SAR operation in September, 2023

On September 1st, 2023, Vietnam MRCC coordinated with relevant authorities to successfully support fishing vessel QNa 91964 TS with 42 fishermen in landing Son Ca island, Spratly Islands of Vietnam. The fishing vessel had a broken engine and drifted while catching squid at the position­ of 10025 N – 114015 E (about 14 nautical miles from North West of Son Ca island).

 On September 07, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the specialized search and rescue vessel named SAR 272 to rescue 02 seriously burned crewmen on m/v BFAD SOUTHERN, Marshall Islands flag, at the position of 08034’ N – 109027’ E, about 175 nautical miles from South East of the cape of Vung Tau.

On September 8, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 273 to participate in firefighting at the Bao Dai wharf area, Con Se Tre, Nha Trang.

On September 11, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 413 with a physician on board (in Con Dao) to successfully rescue 01 fisherman who had a stroke and was lying motionless on board the fishing vessel BV 92349 TS at the position of 06053' N - 107040' E, about 122 nautical miles from South East of Con Dao.

On September 15, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 273 to successfully rescue 01 fishermen who had a stroke, hemiplegia, numbness, and stupor on board the fishing vessel QNa 95489 TS while operating at the position of 13°00' N - 113°17' E (about 244 nautical miles from North East of Nha Trang).

On September 16, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 272 to successfully rescue 01 Romanian crewman who suffered an occupational accident with a deep cut to the elbow on board m/v MSC Sveva, Panama flag, at the position of 07°47' N - 107°44' E, South Southeast of the cape of Vung Tau 156 nautical miles.

On September 17, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 273 to successfully rescue 01 patient with right abdominal severe pain, vomiting, suspected appendicitis on board the fishing vessel QNa 90767 TS, at the position of 12°18' N - 111°50' E, about 155 nautical miles from East of Nha Trang.

On September 19, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 273 to successfully rescue 01 fisherman with brain injury on board the fishing vessel QNa 94464 TS at the position of 12044' N - 112041' E (about 207 nautical miles from North East of Nha Trang, about 125 nautical miles from North West of Song Tu Tay island, Spratly Islands of Vietnam).

On September 26, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 272 (on standby in Con Dao) to successfully rescue 10 fishermen on board the fishing vessel BL 93279 TS, which flooding, sinking and communications were lost, at the position of 08054' N - 106018' E (about 22 nautical miles from North West of Con Dao).

On September 29, 2023, Vietnam MRCC dispatched the search and rescue vessel SAR 412 to successfully rescue 01 Filipino crewman who suffered a head injury onboard m/v DHT Sundarbans, Hong Kong flag, at the position of 16°51' N - 113°30' E, 306 nautical miles from East of  Da Nang, in the waters of Paracel Islands of Vietnam./.
