On the evening of July 06, 2024, Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC) received a distress call from the vessel: XIN DAN YANG (a big size tanker with a length of 60 meters, a width of 333 meters, Callsign: VRMR4, MMSI: 477219800, flagged under Hongkong-China). During the journey from China to Singapore, at the position: Lattitude 12016’ North- Longitude 109043’ East (about 30 nautical miles from the East of Nha Trang), there was 01 crew (Full name: LIANG FENG SHAN, Title: Seaman, Nationality: Chinese, Year of birth: 1987) injured from a serious occupational accident that severed the thumb of his left hand, causing bleeding and life-threatening. The Captain urgently requested assistance to evacuate the injured crew member for medical treatment.

Upon receiving the distress information, Nhatrang MRCC immediately requested the vessel to alter its course towards Nha Trang, simultaneously coordinated with Nhatrang Radio to provide medical guidance and initial first aid instructions for the injured crew member.

Following the directives of Viet Nam Maritime Administration - VINAMARINE, Vietnam MRCC promptly dispatched the specialized search and rescue vessel SAR 273, stationed in Nha Trang, to conduct the rescue operation.

By 22:06 on the same day, SAR 273 had reached the vessel XIN DAN YANG. The rescue team was deployed to a distressed vessel to provide medical first aid to the injured crew member and brought him to the shore for further medical treatment.

At 23:54 on the same day, SAR 273 docked at the Nha Trang MRCC’s port, where the injured crew member was handed over to the relevant authorities and the representative of the vessel's owner in Vietnam, as per regulations. Thanks to timely medical assistance, the crew had overcome the critical condition. According to information from the ship owner, the crew would be transferred and treated at Khanh Hoa General Hospital.
