On July 14, 2024, Mr. Kato Tetsuro, the First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, and the delegation visited and worked at Vung Tau MRCC (Regional Centre III) in Vung Tau City. Welcoming the delegation were Vungtau MRCC’s Board of Directors, Heads of functional departments and Captains of SAR vessels.
At the working session, Vung Tau MRCC introduced to the delegation the organizational structure, equipment, operational results, search and rescue region of the unit, some results of cooperation with Japan in the past. Besides that, Vung Tau MRCC also proposed the need for cooperation with Japan in the coming time, such as creating conditions for officials to attend conferences and seminars as well as participating in training courses in Japan; Maintaining and strengthening search and rescue communication exercises; Strengthening coordination between both sides in search and rescue operations which involving Vietnam and Japan.
Mr. Kato Tetsuro expressed his gratitude to Vietnam MRCC for enabling the visit. He acknowledged Vietnam MRCC's results of the SAR operations, training activities and Drills. He also wishes that in the coming time, there will be a specific plan to strengthen coordination with Vietnam MRCC in implementing the Non-Projects and improve the quality of cooperation practically and effectively.
On this occasion, Vung Tau MRCC cooperated with the training ship KOJIMA of the Japan Coast Guard to organize a drill on handling search and rescue information in English via satellite phone according to the plan approved by the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre.
At the end of the drill, Mr. Kato Tetsuro highly appreciated the seriousness and diligence of the officers on duty and crew members of the Regional Centre III in the training and exercise activities to improve professional skills in coordinating search and rescue at sea./.
