The working delegation of Japan Coast Guard visits and works with Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre

On the morning of December 4, 2024, the working delegation of the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) visited and worked at the headquarter office of Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC).

The welcoming team led by Mr. Nguyen Van Tinh, Deputy General Director of Vietnam MRCC with the attendance of representatives of leaders and officials of supporting departments under the command of Vietnam MRCC; Mr. Nguyen Ha Hai, Deputy Head of the International Cooperation Department - IMO, Vietnam Maritime Administration. On the side of the JCG delegation, there were the participations of Mr. Kanosure Hiroaki, Vice Commandant for Operations, Japan Coast Guard; Mr. Hayashi Ryoji, Senior Research Officer on International Cooperation; Mr. Suzuki Motonori, Head of the Mobile Cooperation Team, International Strategy Department; Mr. Tamari Kosaburo, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs, Department of Security and Rescue; Mr. Noyama Daisuke, Head of International Relations, International Strategy Department; Mr. Maeda Rompei, Assistant of Deputy Commander, Secretariat; Mr. Komatsuzaki Hiroshi, Officer of the International Strategy Department, General Administration Department. The working session was also honored to have the attendance of Mr. Kato Tetsuro, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam.

At the working session, the JCG delegation was introduced, visited the headquarters, learned about the functions, tasks and organizational structure of Vietnam MRCC. The JCG’s representative introduced the delegation; the functions and tasks of their forces. Accordingly, the two sides also had discussions on issues of mutual interest such as: search and rescue operations; training and coaching of human resources; the project of research on plans to apply science and technology in search and rescue operations.

Vietnam MRCC proposed cooperation suggestions between Vietnam MRCC and JCG: keep maintaining direct communication channels, regularly update contacts to ensure timely coordination in all incidents at sea; on training and capacity building: organize joint search and rescue exercises, develop a common plan for specialized training and practice exercises for search and rescue forces, equipment and technology in search and rescue activities; support Vietnam MRCC with specialized equipments.

By the end of the meeting, the JCG side thanked Vietnam MRCC for its warm and thoughtful welcome, simultaneously; both sides highly appreciated the achievements from this visit. This is an opportunity for both sides to share and exchange experiences and together seek for sustainable solutions, creating positive changes that contribute significantly to raising awareness and promoting coordination activities in search and rescue operations at sea.
