Timely rescued the crew member of M/V MSC SVEVA who had a labor accident in the Vietnamese water

16/09/2023

On September 15th, 2023, at 8:09 PM, the Vietnam Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Centre) received a distress call from the M/V MSC SVEVA vessel. The vessel, registered in Panama with a call sign of 3ESP7, was en route from Singapore to China and located in the Southeast Sea area, approximately 156 nautical miles away from Vung Tau. Tarnauceanu Ciprian Bogdan, a Romanian national and a motorman of the MSC SVEVA, had sustained a deep cut on their right elbow while working on board, resulting in profuse bleeding.

In response to the call, the Vietnam centre swiftly requested that the HCM Coastal Radio Station contact the vessel to provide immediate medical advice. The crew member's life was deemed to be in grave danger without prompt medical attention so the centre then directed the MSC SVEVA toward Vung Tau for urgent assistance.

Under the supervision of The National Committee for Search and Rescue of Viet Nam, the Ministry of Transport, and the VietNam Maritime Administration, the Vietnam centre promptly mobilized vessel SAR 272, stationed at Vung Tau MRCC, to perform the rescue mission. The centre also coordinated with the Steering Committee for Incident Response, Disaster, SAR of Vung Tau Province to assign one doctor and one nurse to the mission on vessel SAR 272 to provide first aid to the patient upon arrival at the scene.

The doctor check-up the patient's condition on SAR 272 vessel

On September 16th, 2023, at 4:42 AM local time, vessel SAR 272 approached the M/V MSC SVEVA. The rescue team and the doctor boarded the vessel to administer first aid to the patient and prepare to transfer him to SAR 272. The patient was then swiftly transported to the berth of Regional Search and Rescue Coordination Centre III and handed over to the relevant authorities and the agent ship owner (The Ben Song Ship Service Company Limited).
