Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre - 28 Years of Development (02/10/1996 - 02/10/2024)

01/10/2024

On the morning of September 30, 2024, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC) held a flag-raising ceremony and a political meeting with the participation of all Party members from various branches, connecting the Hanoi headquarters with other regional offices in Hai Phong, Da Nang, Nha Trang, and Vung Tau. Mr. Nguyễn Văn Tính, Deputy General Director of the centre, chaired the meeting.

Following the flag-raising ceremony, Ms. Phạm Thu Trang, Head of the Planning and General Department, presented a report titled "Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center - 28 Years of Development." Her presentation highlighted three key points: the centre’s history, phases of development, and its strategic goals towards 2030, with a vision extending to 2045.

Throughout its 28 years of growth, the centre has transformed from a small organization with only 5-6 staff members managing search and rescue information, relying on local port authorities' resources, into a highly respected national and international search and rescue organization. It has earned numerous awards from the Party, the Government, the Ministry of Transport, provincial authorities, and the Vietnam Maritime Administration for its consistent achievements in maritime rescue coordination, including unexpected situations. Notable accolades include the Second-Class Labor Order and many other prestigious honours for contributing to the field.

International recognition also accompanies the centre’s efforts. In 2019, Captain Đinh Xuân Trường, SAR 413 vessel (MRCC Region III), received a commendation letter from the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) for his professionalism, determination, and efforts in a notable rescue operation. In 2021, crew member Trần Văn Khôi of SAR 412 vessel was awarded the IMO’s "Exceptional Bravery at Sea" award, marking the first time a Vietnamese seafarer received such an honour, recognizing his extraordinary courage and endurance.

On behalf of the centre’s leadership, Mr Nguyễn Văn Tính expressed gratitude to all those who have contributed significantly to the centre's development. He also called on all staff and crew members to stay united, determined to fulfil their duties assigned by the Party and the State, and to remain a dependable support for seafarers.
