08/04/2024

The patient was handed over to the local authority in the city in critical condition for further medical management.

Vietnam MRCC successfully rescues fishermen in distress in the area of Tri Ton Island, Hoang Sa archipelago In the early hours of April 8, 2024, a Vietnamese fishing vessel named QNa 91892 TS was fishing at sea in the area of Tri Ton Island, Hoang Sa Archipelago, approximately 335 nautical miles east of Son Tra Cape, Da Nang. There was a fisherman onboard named Do Van Hien (Y.O.B 1979, hometown in Tam Giang, Nui Thanh, Quang Nam) who had suffered one-sided muscle paralysis and weaknesses. Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (under the Vietnam Maritime Administration, Ministry of Transport) received a medical assistance request from the ship QNa 91892 TS's master. Immediately after receiving the information, Vietnam MRCC coordinated with the Danang Coastal Radio Station to connect medical advice directly to the ship, guide initial first aid work for the fishermen, and request the vessel urgently alter course to head towards Da Nang for a medical emergency.

Through telemedical assistance service, the doctor diagnosed the victim with a stroke, with a high risk of death affecting life safety. Considering the critical status of his health, Vietnam MRCC dispatched a specialized search and rescue ship SAR 412 (Da Nang) to carry out rescue work under the direction of the National Committee for Incident and Disaster Response and Search and Rescue, Ministry of Transport, and Vietnam Maritime Administration.

At 6.19 p.m. on April 8, 2024, Vietnam MRCC rescue ship SAR 412 approached the ship QNa 91892 TS and successfully evacuated the patient.

The patient was subsequently taken to local authorities at Danang MRCC berth in Da Nang for further medical management ashore. At this moment, fisherman Do Van Hien is being transferred to the hospital in Da Nang City for further treatment./.
