Fishermen consecutively encounter accidents at sea

17/09/2023

On September 17th, 2023, Vietnam MRCC received the distress information: the fishing vessel QNa 90767 TS had a crew (Full name: Le Chi Trung, year of birth: 2000, birthplace: Tam Quan, Nui Thanh, Quang Nam) suffering from severe pain in the right abdomen, vomiting and appendicitis diagnosed. The distress position was about 155 nautical miles northeast of Nha Trang. The Captain required urgent assistance to take the crew offshore for emergency treatment.

MRCC had given medical advice as well as guided the fishing vessel to alter its course to Nha Trang. Assessing that the crew’s condition was critical, under the command of the National Committee for Search and Rescue of Vietnam (VINASARCOM), Ministry of Transport, Vietnam Maritime Administration, Vietnam MRCC appointed Search and rescue vessel SAR 273 with doctor on duty in Nha Trang to depart for rescue the crew. At 19:09 on September 17, 2023, SAR 273 approached the fishing vessel QNa 90767 TS. After giving the victim first aid and medical treatment, SAR 273 quickly returned him to the shore.

At 03:06 on September 18, 2023, SAR 273 safely brought the injured crew Le Chi Trung of the fishing vessel QNa 90767 TS to the port of Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center No-IV. After that, the fisherman was transferred to Khanh Hoa General Hospital for further treatment.

This is the second continuous case in the past week that Nhatrang MRCC has promptly rescued fishermen with health problems. Previously, on September 15, 2023, the rescue team of Nhatrang MRCC successfully rescued fisherman Nguyen Tuan on the fishing vessel QNa 95489 TS, who was suffering from a heavy stroke. The distress position was on the Spratly Islands and its vicinity.
